    Vinyl Plank Range

Mohawk manufactures three different types of waterproof Vinyl Plank flooring; these are; SolidTech, SolidTech Plus, and Ultimate Flex. The brand also sells sheet vinyl with its Versa Tech range.

    SolidTech

Mohawks SolidTech range comes in a total of 26 unique designs. The collection offers dark and light shades of wood and wood-look designs with gray accents. SolidTech has a rigid core and a 12-mil wear layer. Most planks come in sizes of 7″ x 49″, and plank thickness is 6.5mm. Planks from Mohawks SolidTech have an attached underlayment and are supported by a 25-year Residential Warranty.

    SolidTech Plus

Mohawk SolidTech Plus - Dove's King
Mohawk SolidTech Plus Tranquility Seeker – Dove’s King

SolidTech Plus is basically a better, more durable version of regular SolidTech. This collection also comes with a rigid core but has a thicker 20-mil wear layer. This is the industry standard wear layer for good vinyl plank floors. SolidTech Plus has 12 different designs; again, most are wood-look style, and some with gray accents. The range also comes with an attached underlayment; however, it has a better warranty (Lifetime Residential) than regular Solidtech.

    Ultimate Flex

Ultimate Flex is Mohawk’s more flexible Vinyl Plank. In fact, it is more like a Vinyl Tile. The range includes 20 different designs, some mimicking tile floors and some mimicking wood floors. Ultimate Flex is much thinner than Mohawks’ other vinyl planks; it is only 2mm thick and only has a 20-mil wear layer. However, this is a good choice for those with uneven subfloor bumps, but it is probably less durable than SolidTech Plus. Plank sizes come in regular lengthy wood plank sizes, but there are some designs with more square planks that look more like tiles. Ultimate Flex can only be glued down for installation.

    VersaTech (Sheet Vinyl)

    Mohawk VersaTech Ultra Vinyl Sheet
Mohawk VersaTech Ultra – Brown Sugar

Versa Tech is Mohawks sheet vinyl range, so it comes in a roll, unlike Vinyl Planks. Sheet Vinyl is cheaper and easier to install than vinyl planks; however, it can also be less durable. Overall, sheet vinyl is still a good option for small spaces like laundry rooms, small toilets, sheds, garages, etc. Mohawks Versa Tech comes in a large variety of designs, 156 designs in total. Most of the vinyl sheets look like tiles, wood, or greyish wood. The sheets are 3mm thick and come with a nice Lifetime Limited Residential Warranty.

    Durability

SolidTech Plus has a 20mil (0.5mm) wear layer, which is the industry standard for durable vinyl planks. Looking at the wear layer and thickness, we can see that SolidTech Plus is Mohawks’ most durable vinyl range. We wouldn’t say it’s as durable as Coretec, but SolidTech Plus is still a fairly durable floor.

Regular mohawk SolidTech (not solid tech plus) only has 12 mils wear layers which is quite thin. However, to our surprise, Mohawks LVP Ultimate Flex has a good 20 mil wear layer. Additionally, Mohawk specifies that all of its Vinyl Planks ranges are 100% waterproof.

    Mohawk Vinyl Plank Pricing

After looking up mohawk vinyl flooring, we discovered that some of the Mohawk ranges are very affordable. SolidTech can be bought for as little as $2.31 per squared foot, and Mohawks Ultimate Flex Glue Down LVP is only $1.81 per squared foot. However, if you want extra durability and a thicker vinyl plank, then SolidTech Plus sells for $4.35 per sq. Ft.

Installation on most Mohawk vinyl is pretty easy; SolidTech and SolidTech Plus can be installed using a floating system. The planks can be simply clicked together. A lot of people even choose to install the floors themselves to save costs.

Mohawks Ultimate Flex can only be installed by gluing down the planks; this method is harder to master and not a job for a DIY enthusiast.

    Maintenance

As with all flooring types, care and maintenance are key to your floor’s durability and performance. To extend your floors lifetime and avoid costly damages, you should follow these recommendations:

Care and maintenance are critical for a long-lasting vinyl plank or engineered floor. Below are some tips and instructions to keep your floors looking fresh for longer.

    Keep Your Floors Clean

Vacuuming and mopping your floor regularly is vital to its lifespan. Dust and dirt act as abrasive and cause scratches on the wear layer. Hence why it’s crucial to always vacuum your floor before mopping. Unfortunately, some vacuums will damage your floor, so it’s essential to only use a vacuum suitable for hard surface floors.

As for mopping, it’s important not to over-saturate your floor. For best results, we recommend using a spray mop that dispenses a fine mist of water mixed with a cleaning solution on your floor with the touch of a button. This also avoids spillages caused by having to use a water bucket. Furthermore, it would be best if you used a PH-neutral solution. Household dish soap is fine as long as you don’t use too much soap. For best results, we recommend using Bona Hard-Surface Floor Cleaner.

Furthermore, it’s important to avoid all-purpose or multi-purpose cleaners as it’s often not PH-neutral. Contrary to the fact that some brands allow it, we recommend not using a steam mop. Although they are easy to use, they will cause your floor to become dull faster due to the heat. Speaking of heat, avoid exposing your floor to direct sunlight at peak hours; use blinds or curtains if necessary.

    Protect Your Floor

There are several ways to protect your floor from damage. Below are some of the best and most common protection methods to adopt.

    • Attach large-diameter felt pads to furniture legs. This allows heavy furniture to glide smoothly on your floor without causing scuffs and scratches.
    • Avoid wearing shoes as they can bring in dirt and damage your floor. It’s best to wear socks.
    • Place rugs in high-traffic areas such as the living area.
    • Be wary of office chair casters; they can destroy your floor. Either replace them with floor-friendly blade casters or place down a protective chair mat.
    • Maintain a room temperature between 60 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. This prevents moisture problems.
    • Place down walk-off doormats at house entrances to avoid bringing in dirt from outdoors which can scratch your floor.
    • If you have a dog, nail trimming will prevent them from scratching the floor. Plus, most dogs like their nails to be trimmed now and then.

    1. Where are Mohawk SolidTech Plus rigid core floors manufactured?
I don’t want anything made in China or shipped from China to another country and labeled as if they’re not made in China.
Or made using Chinese PVC at all.
I love the look of some of these and more importantly, I have chronic lung disease and I need Greenguard Gold Certified flooring.
