Mohawk is a US flooring manufacturer that has been around for a very long time. The company was officially set up in 1920 under the name Mohawk Carpet mills. Mohawk now offers a wide variety of flooring including hardwood, tile, vinyl, laminate, and carpet. Today we are going to fully focus on Mohawk Vinyl Plank flooring. In this Mohawk Vinyl Plank review, we are going to discuss all aspects of the brand including durability, pricing, and mohawk online reviews. Firstly let’s see what Vinyl Plank collections Mohawk has to offer.
Vinyl Plank Range
Mohawk manufactures three different types of waterproof Vinyl Plank flooring, these are; SolidTech, SolidTech Plus, and Ultimate Flex. The brand also sells sheet vinyl with its Versa Tech range.
Mohawks SolidTech range comes in a total of 26 unique designs. The collection offers dark and light shades of wood and wood-look designs with gray accents. SolidTech has a rigid core and a 12mil wear layer. Most planks come in sizes of 7″ x 49″ and plank thickness is 6.5mm. Planks from Mohawks SolidTech have an attached underlayment and are supported by a 25-year Residential Warranty.
SolidTech Plus is basically a better, more durable version of regular SolidTech. This collection also comes with a rigid core but has a thicker 20mil wear layer. This is the industry standard wear layer for good vinyl plank floors. SolidTech Plus has 12 different designs, again, most are wood-look style and some with gray accents. The range also comes with an attached underlayment however it has a better warranty (Lifetime Residential) than regular Solidtech.
Ultimate Flex is Mohawk’s more flexible Vinyl Plank. In fact, it is more like a Vinyl Tile. The range includes 20 different designs some mimicking tile floors and some mimicking wood floors. Ultimate Flex is much thinner than Mohawks’ other vinyl planks, it is only 2mm thick and only has a 20mil wear layer. However, this is a good choice for those with uneven subfloor bumps but is probably less durable than SolidTech Plus. Plank sizes come in regular lengthy wood plank sizes but there are some designs with more square planks that look more like tiles. Ultimate Flex can only be glued down for installation.
VersaTech (Sheet Vinyl)
Versa Tech is Mohawks sheet vinyl range so it comes in a roll, unlike Vinyl Planks. Sheet Vinyl is cheaper and easier to install than vinyl planks however it can also be less durable. Overall sheet vinyl is still a good option for small spaces like laundry rooms, small toilets, sheds, garages, etc. Mohawks Versa Tech comes in a large variety of designs, 156 designs in total. Most of the vinyl sheets look like tiles, wood, or greyish wood. The sheets are 3mm thick and come with a nice Lifetime Limited Residential Warranty.
SolidTech Plus has a 20mil (0.5mm) wear layer which is the industry standard for durable vinyl planks. Looking at the wear layer and thickness we can see that SolidTech Plus is Mohawks’ most durable vinyl range. We wouldn’t say it’s as durable as Coretec but SolidTech Plus is still a fairly durable floor.
Regular mohawk SolidTech (not solid tech plus) only has 12 mils wear layers which is quite thin. However to our surprise Mohawks LVP Ultimate Flex has a good 20 mil wear layer. Additionally, Mohawk specifies that all of its Vinyl Planks ranges are 100% waterproof.
Mohawk Vinyl Plank Pricing
After looking up mohawk vinyl flooring we discovered that some of Mohawk ranges are very affordable. SolidTech can be bought for as little as $2.31 per squared foot and Mohawks Ultimate Flex Glue Down LVP is only $1.81 per squared foot. However, if you want extra durability and a thicker vinyl plank then SolidTech Plus sells for $4.35 per sq. Ft.
|Vinyl Plank Range||Price per Square Foot||Wear Layer|

|SolidTech Plus (Rigid Vinyl Plank)||from $4.35 per Sq.Ft.||20 mil (0.5mm)|

Very pleased with this flooring. The installation was quick, easy and the results are fantastic. Initially started with a similar flooring different brand and had to return it, (with no problem, Thank you Lowes) went with Mohawk and couldn’t be happier. We are absolutely thrilled with the results.J
He are very happy with our choice of Tybee Island flooring. Looks to be a lighter brown with a hint of grey. One of the pics looks a little darker due to the lighting being dimmed. It has a thick wear layer, so hopefully will be durable over time.Scott
Installation on most Mohawk vinyl is pretty easy, SolidTech and SolidTech Plus can be installed using a floating system. The planks can be simply clicked together. A lot of people even choose to install the floors themselves to save costs.
Mohawks Ultimate Flex can only be installed by gluing down the planks, this method is harder to master and not a job for a DIY enthusiast.
SolidTech and SolidTech plus both have attached underlayment meaning you don’t have to buy extra underlayment like some other vinyl plank products. Prior to installation, you should follow Mohawks’ detailed installation guide.
As with all flooring types care and maintenance are key to your floor’s durability and performance. To extend your floors lifetime and avoid costly damages you should follow these recommendations:
- Do not drag heavy furniture on the floor, additionally, use furniture leg pads to avoid scratches, these can be found in most local DIY stores.
- Make sure to clean all liquid spills promptly.
- Avoid bringing dirt inside, ideally, you should use floor mats at your home’s entrance points. Clean your floor at least weekly.
- Use rugs to cover high traffic areas and workstations.
- Avoid Using steam mops unless the flooring specification allows doing so.
- Do not expose to the sun for long periods of time and make sure your home is not too humid.
- Never use bleach, oil soap, or any other potentially harsh household cleaning products. Use a cleaning product specifically designed for your type of flooring.
- Use the right vacuum type for your floor, some vacuums will cause damage and scratches (avoid beater bars).
Our favorite laminate flooring mop is the Bona Spray Mop by far. We highly recommend it for all Hard-Surface floor types. It’s lightweight and doesn’t oversaturate your floor or require a water bucket.
If you’re after a vacuum, then we recommend the Eureka Elevate Cordless Vacuum. It’s our favorite choice, quite affordable, and doesn’t hurt hard-surface floors.
