As of writing this review, Hydroshield laminate flooring is priced between $1.59 and $2.49 per square foot. That makes it one of the most affordable laminate options on the market. It’s pretty much the same price as Home Decorators and Lifeproof laminate; the only cheaper brand is Trafficmaster laminate.

There doesn’t seem to be any direct impact of the thickness of the planks on the price, as even the 12mm Hydroshield lines can be purchased for as little as $1.89 per square foot.

    Laminate Flooring Brand Comparison

When examining the durability of a laminate floor, we mainly look at four key factors; the AC rating, overall thickness, water resistance, and warranty length.

We consider an AC4 rating and 12 mm overall thickness a must if you want a long-lasting floor. Hydroshield laminate certainly meets those requirements. Furthermore, the dense wood-based core helps with stability.

Water resistance with Hydroshield flooring is decent with a 24-hour water-resistant protection period. However, the brand’s laminate is not fully waterproof.

The manufacturer’s warranty is crucial to choosing a good laminate floor. It’s a good indicator of how much trust a brand has in its laminate.

As nearly all flooring brands offer a limited lifetime residential warranty, it’s better to use the commercial warranty. Hydroshield laminate comes with a generous 10-year commercial warranty, one of the longest on the market.

    HydroShield Laminate Reviews

We did an extensive search on the web for Hydroshield flooring reviews and discovered that there is hardly anything to be found, apart from a few comments on a Houzz discussion thread.

Unfortunately, Floor & decor doesn’t have product reviews on their website. Because of the lack of information, we had to give the brand a lower overall score for online reviews.

Installation is relatively easy with Hydroshield. Like most Laminate floors, Hydroshield can be installed using the Floating method, the most common and most straightforward. It includes using an angle-tap locking mechanism to lock the planks together with no need for glue or nails.

Hydroshield can be installed over most structurally solid and level sub-floors that are free from moisture. This includes Wood, Concrete, and Tile. Hydroshield Laminate requires underlayment to be laid before installation. The underlayment should be at least 3mm thick.

When installing Hydroshield Laminate, you should leave at least a 1/4 inch gap to allow for expansion over time. This gap can be covered with Finish Trim. Floor&Decor states that Hydroshield Laminate requires at least 48 hours of acclimation.

    Care and Maintenance are critical to the durability and performance of your floor. To extend the lifetime of your laminate flooring and prevent damage, you follow these recommendations;

    Regular Maintenance

    • Regularly gently sweep and mop the floor to remove any particles which can cause scratching.
    • Use a damp mop to remove spots.
    • Our favorite flooring mop is the Bona Spray Mop. We highly recommend it.
    • Make sure to use a PH-neutral flooring cleaner. For Laminate, we recommend Bona Hard Surface Cleaner.
    • Any spills of acidic liquids such as wine, juice, and soft drink should be avoided and cleaned immediately.
    • Avoid any spills of other harmful chemicals such as paints and dyes.

Our favorite laminate flooring mop is the Bona Spray Mop by far. We highly recommend it for all Hard-Surface floor types. It’s lightweight and doesn’t oversaturate your floor or require a water bucket.

If you’re after a vacuum, then we recommend the Eureka Elevate Cordless Vacuum. It’s our favorite choice, quite affordable, and doesn’t hurt hard-surface floors.

    • Do not use all-purpose or multipurpose cleaners.
    • Don’t use vacuums with rotary beater bars.
    • Do not use Vinegar, Bleach.
    • Don’t use wet sweeper pads.
    • Do not use a steam cleaner.
    • Don’t use steel wool or scouring pads for cleaning.
    • Do not use cleaning products containing Wax, Oil, or Polish.

    Prevent Damage

    • Attach Foam Pads under furniture legs; these can be found in most local DIY stores. Ask for furniture leg pads.
    • Place rugs in high traffic areas such as workstations and family sofas.
    • Avoid walking on the floor in shoes. Wear socks.
    • Use doormats in entrances to avoid bringing in the dirt.

    Durability – 8.5 out of 10 points

Online Reviews – 6.5 out of 10 points

There are hardly any Hydroshield laminate reviews on the internet. Therefore, we had to score the brand low on online reviews.

Overall Score – 8 out of 10 points

In conclusion, Hydroshield laminate scored an overall 8 out of 10 points in our review. The brand is a solid choice in terms of thickness, style, and AC rating at a very affordable price.
